Was Ursula Sontheil, aka Mother Shipton a witch ?

 

The site Witchcraft keeps a page which keeps the old hag in the directory of famous witches.

 

Basically the page tells the story of the Shipton witch and her clairvoyant predictions of the Great Plague and Great Fire in London, the Spanish Armada, the Wosley affair, the accession of Lady Jane Grey, the 1862 forgeries.

 

This page describes the marriage of Ursula Sontheil (Southill, Southeil...) to Toby Shipton in 1512. This in itself is a mystery since other sources say she was born a Shipton while others say the person was only a figment of the imagination of writers and publishers.

 

Mystery in our opinion is what makes the ugly old hag beautiful.
