The man behind the Morse Code
Samuel Morse Telegraphy Samuel F B Morse.

The Artist/Inventor Samuel Finley Breese Morse is the man behind morse code.

At least he is the man behind the concept of an electromagnetic impulse communication device which changed the way people communicated worldwide.

SFB Morse was born on April 27, 1791 in Charlestown, Massachusetts. He lived until April 2, 1972 and passed away in New York.

He was not trained as an electrician, scientist, or engineer but had the artistic vision for a device that would transmit electromagnetic signals across telegraph lines.

His patent was granted in 1840. The real mechanics behind the telegraph might be credited to Albert Vail who assisted Morse. He may equally be considered the man behind Morse code.

Morse himself went on to found along with Asher Durand and Thomas Cole the National Academy of Design and served as it's first president.

For his telegraph apparatus he was denied the support needed by Congress to develop a Transatlantic telegraph service but did build the first American telegraph line from Maryland to Washington.

His artistic paintings remain well sought after by collectors of fine art.
