Lyman Blake was born on August 24, 1835 and passed away on October 3, 1883.
 
He was from Abington Massachusetts. Lyman worked in the sewing industry for the famed inventor Isaac Singer who's company was Singer Corporation.
 
Lyman and his brother Samuel got into the shoemaking business.
 
 
  
 
In 1856 Samuel Blake and his brother Lyman got into a shoemaking business. In 1958 he received a patent on his unique sewing machine from the US Patent Office.
 
The patent rights were later sold to a gentleman called Georges McKay who kept them employed.
 
The Blake sewing machine was well accepted commercially for several years partly because it sped up the process of sewing shoes together.
