Bathysphere
A few years ago it seemed as though one might need a bathysphere to dive deep enough to get to see the bottom of the stock markets.

Otis Barton - coinventor
In 1928 Otis Barton was working on the original spherical shell that would later become the first Bathysphere. The design was done by John A. Butler.

Cox and Stevens Inc. were given the job of constructing this deep diving vessel but the first prototype had several flaws.

Along came William Beebe and together with Otis Barton the two co-invented a deep sea spherical manned submersible vessel.

The first manned dive done in the Barton and Beebe bathysphere was on June 6, 1930, and both coinventors were on board. They took the submersible sphere to a depth of 803 ft. By 1934 they were taking her down to 3028 ft and that ocean depth record remained unbroken for fifteen years.

Attempts to go deeper proved too much for the suspension cables and the journey of deep sea explorations moved onwards with the innovation and invention of the bathyscaphe.

In 1938, Emile C. Schnurmacher, wrote an article for Popular Mechanics about Exploring Worlds Deepest Mysteries. While Schnurmacher is writing this Barton is waiting patiently to see if Dr. Beebe will join him in the journey of taking a new deep sea submersible to new depths and this time in a machine called the Diphrobenth which is still in the design stage.

The major deal with this new spherical submarine would be it's ability to walk on the ocean floor which would be an advancement to the bathysphere which was suspended on cables.
