The Jared Potter in question here is alive and well and is an American who works on innovative products that are geared towards a future of cleaner energy.

 

That can't be a totally bad thing in this age of Green thinking and Kyoto protocols.

 

Jared Potter's company is based in California and one of it's inventions is certainly making some drilling experts think that they are onto something that could revolutionize the future of deep underground drilling.  The device in question is the "hydrothermal spallation drill" and it's main attraction is the fact that through this drilling process their is no bit that touches the stone surface therefore no possibility of aged technology bits to shatter and need replacement.

 

Jared Potter's concept deals with high ranges of heat and the techniques in question are supposedly capable of drilling deeper than the conventional methods.

 

Interestingly the inventions of Jared Potter are making people use terms like "holy grail" and Star Trek technology.

 

Jared's work is a continuation of his father Robert Potter's work on harvesting geothermal energy which the elder studied as a worker at the highly secretive Los Alamos Laboratories.
