Home      Did Popov invent the radio

Alexander Popov
This Russian mathematician and physicist claims to have invented the radio ahead of Guglielmo Marconi. The mainstream media says No.

Marconi filed for a patent on June 2, 1896 and didn't publicly demonstrate his wireless telegraphy instrument until July of that year. Alexander Stepanovitch Popov had made public demonstrations of his ability to make an instrument function has a receiver of electromagnetic waves.

Popov however failed to record his demonstrations. For his efforts he received an award in electrical engineering.

Both Marconi and Popov stand as Radio pioneer icons.
